I just saw in the Boston Globe that the movie, “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” is scheduled to open in Boston on Friday, November 29, 2013. We’ve seen the trailer for the movie, an autobiography of Nelson Mandela’s life, and it looks terrific.
According to the Huffington Post: Nelson Mandela was amused by the elaborate makeup process Idris Elba, a British actor went through to play him.
”"Is that me?” Anant Singh, the South African producer of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” recalled a smiling Mandela as saying when he saw a picture of actor Idris Elba as an elderly version of the man who spent 27 years in jail under white minority rule. After he was freed, Mandela led South Africa through a difficult transition to its first racially inclusive elections in 1994, a historic event that propelled him to the presidency and inspired many around the world.”
The movie will open this month in South Africa before it opens in the US and other markets. Nelson Mandela himself has apparently already seen clips of the movie or pictures of the actor who plays him as an elderly man.
As you can tell I am quite excited about this film and wanted to give all of you a heads up about it so that you can plan accordingly.
